Principal's Welcome
Murphy Tiger Community,
I am thrilled to welcome you and your family to the 2025 - 26 school year at Murphy Elementary!
I am Nick Rey, the proud incoming principal of Murphy Elementary. I’ve been in education for more than 16 years, with experience teaching college graduates and high school students before moving into coaching and leadership. I’ve spent the last three years as an elementary principal, and I’ve learned so much about supporting early literacy and numeracy and helping students develop strong social and community building skills from their earliest years. I see a lot of these strong practices already evident at Murphy and I’m looking forward to helping develop them to best support our students.
I’ve had the fortune of meeting with a few school staff over the summer, and I feel blessed to be joining a community with such love and dedication and experience and joy shown across the staff. I’m excited to work with them, and with you, our family community, to ensure our tigers are supported to be their best selves.
We’ve been busy setting up for the year, and thanks to the hard work of Mr Jimmie and Mr Carlos, our fantastic custodial team, our classrooms are glistening with the shine of fresh wax, ready for the scuffle of shoes as our students return to school in a couple weeks on Tuesday, August 19.
Our office opens this week and we’ll be sharing more information about the start of the school year, our new family handbook, and hopefully soon our new school website. Our Back to School Jamboree will be on Friday, August 15, from 2-4 pm. Please join us to meet your kid's teacher and our staff, connect with the community, and eat some delicious food.
Around campus, I always wear a bright orange hat, so I should be easy to spot. I have an open door policy and would love to collaborate with you to best support our students. Please reach out if there is anything we can do.
We’re also going to have a lot of opportunities for parent and family involvement, including our School Site Council, our English Learner Advisory Committee, our African American Parent Advisory Committee, and we’re also hoping to recruit a few parents onto our school Climate team. I'll be sharing more information about all of this and other school events like our weekly tiger tributes and our Murphy Family Forum. Please see below for some upcoming important dates.

I’m really excited to join this community and I'm looking forward to welcoming your students on campus soon.
Thank you.
Best,
Nick Rey
